Karo Project

This project is inspired by the Karo tribe, and by how it has been affected by colonialism and western tourism. The Karo tribe resides in Ethiopia near the Omo River. It is a tribe of warriors that is famous for its masterful use of body painting. During my research I came upon this interesting fact - tourists visiting the region had left clothing behind and the tribe actually incorporated this clothing into their dress. One can, for instance, see a tribesman in traditional colorings wearing an American NBA t-shirt. I found this fascinating and from there this project was born.
